Thomas Lowe Taylor -- I stumble

**************

says to say what's new
the other day went along
I held my own ground again
and again
it receded and came back
I quavered over the heights
and the depths
I prayed, I sang I kicked
my heels in the dirt
asking for what is there

I lay
in the hammock
the full moon came up
through the trees
the frogs croaking
in the cedar trees
behind me
I was in Montana
a long time ago
and then
I was in the hammock
